IT and communications for the deep sea commercial shipping sector

We are setting up a new VSAT solution and we will probably use Virtek CommBox as the Firewall/Gateway etc solution to provide connection over multiple carriers to the vessel's network.
Am waiting all your comments and knowledge.

Hi Strato,
What type of vessels does your company manage and what is the first feedback from the VSAT antenna onboard?

Thanks
Hi Katerina,

We manage LPG's , VLGC's. We are going to install until the end of the year VSAT on one of our newbuildings coming out 2009 Q1. Trials will run on board to cover all our questions and benchmark VSAT. Hopefully till next March I will be able to give you thorough reports.
If you know some other running already VSAT using CommBox please let me know so that I can ask them their opinion.

Regards,
Stratos
Strato,
We manage Cargo vessels and therefore the VSAT antenna installation is almost out of question. We may consider installing VSAT on one of our newbuildings to be delivered in 2009.

However, we intend to use the Virtek CommBox with either F77 or Fleet Broadband (once available for global coverage). We have installed the Setel system at the office for testing.

Thanks for the info.

Katerina
can you tell me more on Fleet Broadband?
What would you like to know?
Regards,
Stratos
Hello Stratos
You may well wish to consider the Vados Systems solution which is used on the larger fleets does everything in one box
www.vados.com

includes service blending VSAT, Fleet , 3G , GSM and Port Wi-FI

Kind Regards

Bryan
Hello Stratos,

shoot a mail to me agk@mcp.com

If you install a VSAT, we can install a small rig, enabling you to offer GSM voice, sms and GPRS on board the vessel. We use both Vados and RAD mux'es.

We can also offer WLAN.

kind regards,

Asim G. Kiyani
